Frequently Asked Questions

  • Just fill out the short, free consultation request or email me at chris@justfeetahead.com. I will then send you multiple calendar options to schedule a conversation either by phone or virtual (your choice) to talk through what you're looking for and how my approach aligns with your needs to determine if we think it's a good fit. From there, we’ll decide the duration, location, and focus for your initial session and adapt sessions over time to best meet you.

  • Greater details can be found on the “Structure + Pricing” page of the website, but the short answer is that for each session you choose the session duration (does not always have to be the same) and location (also does not always have to be the same). This can be anything from your favorite trail to a coffee shop you love to your own home. Virtual options are also available. Or get creative! If you want to go fishing or to the Grand Canyon, we can make that work. We will also determine what the focus of the session will be, whether more dialogue-based, movement-oriented, or creative, such as writing or art. This likely sounds new to you, but as we work together it will become more natural to tailor the session to you, and I can always make suggestions based on you and what’s working.

  • Nope. Movement such as running/hiking or creative work such as writing or making art are just some options you have for engaging in exploration. If you prefer a walk-and-talk or to use sound or writing, that’s what we’ll do. You can also get creative with your preferences or talk through ideas and options with me. And if you want to sit and talk or have a virtual discussion that session or every session, again that’s what we’ll do.

  • The price will depend on session length and whether it’s a stand alone session or part of a package, which includes built-in reduced cost. Sliding scale options are also available. See the “Structure + Pricing” page for more details. You can pay by credit card, cash, Zelle, or check. At this time I do not accept insurance or Venmo.

  • The first 15 minutes beyond your scheduled time are free since I will not schedule anyone immediately after you. If you want to extend another 30-60 minutes you can do so at a reduced rate of 50% of the cost of the original session. I will alert you at 15 minutes over to ask how you want to proceed. You are also always free to email me regardless of whether or not we extend the session.

  • I will send a follow-up email within 48 hours of our session’s end with thoughts, a summary, and things to think about or actions to take prior to our next session. Feel free to respond to my email and/or send your own thoughts afterwards, and I will use your thoughts to prep for our next session. If you purchase a package that includes more written or virtual communication, then you will just follow whatever that package allows, but I always welcome your feedback and communication and will incorporate it into future sessions.

  • If inclement weather makes an outdoor session impossible, we will reschedule. Or we can switch to an indoor option or meet virtually. If your original appointment is already indoors or virtual, then bad weather will not impact the session unless the weather makes driving or internet connection unviable, in which case we will reschedule.

  • Life happens, and I understand that. Your first cancellation will not be charged. Any future cancellation or no show outside of 48 hours prior to the session start will be charged for one hour and payment must be made before future sessions can be scheduled. If you are sick or have an emergency then the 48 hour rule does not apply and we will simply reschedule. Again, life happens and I will always trust your word.

  • I believe in therapy. I’ve seen it work for many and have experienced its benefits personally. I also believe in the uniqueness of each individual that is often difficult to serve within the traditional therapy framework. What I offer is tailored sessions pulling from my clinical mental health master’s program, my experiences in education and corporate America, and my individual passions and therapy certifications in nature, art, sound, creative expression, movement, and holistic approaches as paths to healing and wholeness. I myself have moved through multiple life transitions in a search of a life that best reflects who I am, my values, and how I define a good life. I want to reach clients who are reluctant to try traditional therapy, who have not had the success they expected from therapy, or have progressed in therapy but want to supplement it with approaches that get them off the therapist’s couch and into something more natural to them. And on a schedule that works for you. If the client is the expert on themselves, as I firmly believe, then they should have a central voice in designing the way sessions look, feel, and progress. I am not currently licensed and will refer you to specific professionals if medication or particular techniques such as EMDR are needed, and I can work in conjunction with your current or future therapist to provide the most complete approach to your needs. I am not a miracle worker or shaman and no guarantees as to outcomes can be made. But this is life, so you already know that all we can do is take the next step forward.

  • First, it’s important to note that I am not a shaman or a miracle worker, and no guarantees as to outcome can be made. Our sessions are for informational purposes only and should not substitute professional medical advice, so always consult with a qualified healthcare provider for medical or psychiatric concerns. Further, your success depends on many factors outside our control such as economic and social conditions. That said, a motivated client will hopefully see progress and we will continually assess and check in on how things are going and make adjustments that serve your best interest. But I am not trying to get you on the hook for years and will provide references if other expertise is needed or if we feel the sessions are not benefitting you.

  • I do not require medical or financial information from you to work together. Any personal information you share is at your discretion. I will keep a copy of your signed informed consent and confidentiality form, plus any waiver you sign if we go for a walk, hike, run, etc. My intake form is very informal and focused on you as a person rather than you as a medical being, and you can answer with as much or little information as you want.

  • I will take all precautions to prevent this, including determining what level of activity is appropriate if you do want to incorporate movement such as walking, running, hiking, etc. I'll have you sign a waiver stating you understand the risks involved and accept personal responsibility for any outcome. But my goal is your safety. Further, I will always share my location with my partner and encourage you to do the same with someone you trust.

  • I work with any clients ages 18+ as individuals, pairs, or groups. I specialize in identity questions (such as becoming your full integrated self, finding your purpose, self-exploration, shadow and unconscious exploration, decision making, deconstructing religious and national identity constructions, becoming more active and creative, and reconnecting to nature, others, and yourself) and life transitions (such as career, relationship, midlife, college, parenting, and adjusting to life after physical injury). Working through these larger topics will of course raise other issues such as perfectionism, isolation, anxiety, depression, and guilt or shame. I take a person-centered, existential, holistic, and trauma-informed approach to all issues, and if anything arises outside my expertise I will provide references for specialists in whatever area is needed. I do not diagnose or pathologize but seek to work with the whole person. My work should not replace medical care, though working together can compliment any medical advice or therapeutic work you are receiving.
